Zach's essay

Different bands and performers have held benefit concerts over the years to raise money for underprivileged children and adults. What are some other ways that musicians can do to help raise money and awareness in order to better the community?

Performers and bands have held concerts in the past and present to raise money and awareness of young people over the world. In the recent past, there was a concert performed by Aaron Neville, Harry Connick, and Faith Hill, to help raise money for those who lost possessions and loved ones during Hurricane Katrina. But benefit concerts aren’t just for helping with natural disasters. We hold these concerts to raise money for children and adults who are sick. Also for schools who do not have enough money to buy nice things for their academic programs.

Musicians do not always need to have a concert to raise the money they need. Although it is the best way to raise money, there are many other ways in which they can help other people who are in need. Even if it’s playing for pocket money on the side of the street like we did while we were in Boston. If you’re not a musician, like some of the people we talked to, then you can have plays, or other types of shows like that.

Sometimes you have a benefit concert, and it doesn’t go the way you had hoped and planed that it would. Take Michael Jackson’s benefit concert for September 11th. The line up of performers was supposed to include Aerosmith,, Mick Jagger, and Kiss. Instead, the ticket recipients went to a show to watch other old or played out singers. Some of these other performers included Rickey Martin, and N’Sync. The concert was a huge blowup. However they still raised money for 9/11 because everyone still went. You don’t always need to have a concert to raise money and awareness for a good cause, but it is always a good thing to give back to the community or even the world. Every little step makes a difference.
